Apple just sent out the invitations, and the tech world is buzzing. The company’s annual September event, themed “Surprise and Shine,” is officially set for Wednesday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m. PT at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park.

For nearly 20 years, Apple has unveiled its entire iPhone lineup in one go. Not this year.

⚡ A20 Pro Chip: The 2nm Revolution
The star of the show under the hood is the A20 Pro chip — Apple’s first processor built on TSMC’s 2-nanometer process.
The numbers are staggering:
Performance boost: 15% to 18% faster than the A19 Pro
Energy efficiency: 25% to 30% improvement
AI processing power: effectively doubled

📷 Camera: Variable Aperture Finally Arrives
For years, iPhone photographers have wanted more control over depth of field. They’re finally getting it.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature a physical variable-aperture main camera — a first for the iPhone.
The lens is rumored to support f/1.4 to f/4.0 ten-step adjustable aperture, allowing users to control light intake and depth of field manually. It’s a hardware-level upgrade that brings smartphone photography closer to DSLR quality.
Other camera upgrades include:
Pro Max exclusive: 6x optical periscope telephoto lens
Front camera: upgraded to 24 megapixels

📱 Display: Smaller Dynamic Island, Brighter Screen
The Dynamic Island is getting a makeover. Apple is reportedly moving the Face ID sensors under the display, reducing the cutout size by 25% to 35%.
The Pro models will also feature LTPO+ displays with M16 emitting material, improving energy efficiency, brightness and color accuracy. The Pro Max is expected to sport a 6.9-inch display, while the Pro will come in around 6.3 inches.
🔋 Battery and Connectivity: Bigger, Faster, Smarter
Battery life is getting a major boost. The iPhone 18 Pro Max battery is rumored to increase to between 5,200mAh and 5,567mAh — a 9% to 12% jump over the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 4,832mAh. The Pro model will also see a capacity increase.
On the connectivity front, Apple is expected to debut its second-generation self-developed C2 5G modem, finally cutting ties with Qualcomm entirely. The C2 chip could enable satellite 5G backup connectivity in areas without cellular coverage.

The Pro models will feature a more unified, single-tone back glass — moving away from the two-tone design of the iPhone 17 Pro.

Here’s the catch: all this innovation comes at a cost.
Due to a global memory chip shortage driven by AI server demand, DRAM and NAND flash prices have skyrocketed. Apple CEO Tim Cook has already warned that price increases are unavoidable.
Chinese pricing leaks suggest:
iPhone 18 Pro: starting at 9,999 RMB (up from 8,999 RMB for the 17 Pro)
iPhone 18 Pro Max: starting at 11,000 RMB
US pricing is expected to follow a similar upward trajectory.
