Brad Pitt Is Back as Cliff Booth: Everything We Know About the New Tarantino Sequel

Brad Pitt Is Back as Cliff Booth

Cliff Booth is back — and he’s about to get into even more trouble.

Nearly eight years after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood charmed audiences and earned Brad Pitt his first acting Oscar, Netflix has finally lifted the curtain on the long-anticipated follow-up. And it’s not quite what anyone expected.

Here’s everything we know about The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.

The Official Title Is Finally Here

On Wednesday, August 26, Netflix officially announced the title of the sequel: The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.

The streaming giant also dropped a teaser featuring Pitt’s Cliff Booth reclining in his car, smoking a cigarette — the same laid-back, effortlessly cool energy that made the character an instant icon.

The title is perfect. It promises exactly what fans want: more of Cliff Booth, more misadventures, and more of that signature Tarantino unpredictability.

The Dream Team: Tarantino Writes, Fincher Directs

Here’s where things get interesting. Quentin Tarantino wrote the script — but he’s not directing.

Instead, David Fincher — the legendary director of Se7enFight Club, and The Social Network — is taking the helm. It’s a collaboration nobody saw coming, and it’s already one of the most talked-about film partnerships of the decade.

Why isn’t Tarantino directing?

The filmmaker has been crystal clear about his decision. He’s determined to make his tenth and final film something completely original — not a sequel to one of his earlier works.

“I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked,” Tarantino said on The Church of Tarantino podcast. “It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.”

But he couldn’t be happier with who stepped in.

“I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors,” Tarantino added. “The idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account.”

What’s the Story? 1977 and a Very Different Hollywood

The film is set in 1977 — eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

According to Netflix, Cliff Booth will be navigating “a very different Hollywood” from the one audiences saw in the original. The era of disco, punk, and New Hollywood is in full swing. The studio system has collapsed. The counterculture has gone corporate. And Cliff Booth — the World War II veteran, the stuntman, the dog-loving drifter — is trying to find his place in it all.

While plot details remain under wraps, Deadline previously reported that Cliff Booth will transition from stuntman to Hollywood fixer — a role that suits his particular set of skills. Imagine Cliff Booth, the man who allegedly killed his wife and got away with it, now being paid to solve other people’s problems. It’s a premise dripping with potential.

Brad Pitt himself described the project simply: “It’s an episode, not really a sequel, of the character from Once Upon a Time.”

The Cast: Who’s Joining Cliff Booth?

Pitt leads the ensemble, reprising his Oscar-winning role as the enigmatic stuntman. But he’s got plenty of company.

The cast includes:

  • Elizabeth Debicki

  • Scott Caan

  • Carla Gugino

  • Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

  • Peter Weller

  • Matt Groove

  • JB Tadena

  • Corey Fogelmanis

  • Karren Karagulian

Notably absent? Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton. While it’s possible his character could make a cameo, the sequel is squarely focused on Cliff Booth, not his former employer.

When Can You Watch It?

The film will receive a two-week exclusive IMAX theatrical release starting November 25, 2026. After that, it will be available to stream globally on Netflix starting December 23, 2026.

For Pitt, it marks his first on-screen film role since F1, released in June 2025.

How Did This Movie Even Happen?

The story behind the film is almost as fascinating as the film itself.

In April 2025, Deadline reported that Pitt and Fincher had approached Tarantino with a proposal: let them use his unpublished script for a Cliff Booth sequel. Tarantino gave his blessing. Netflix came on board. And by July 2025, filming was underway.

The project even landed a $20 million California film tax credit. It’s a rare instance of a director handing over his own creation to another filmmaker — and trusting him completely.

Why This Matters

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing films of 2026. It’s a sequel that isn’t quite a sequel. A Tarantino film that isn’t directed by Tarantino. A Fincher film that feels like a Tarantino film.

For fans of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, it’s a chance to spend more time with one of the most memorable characters of the past decade. For cinephiles, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration between two of cinema’s greatest living directors. And for Brad Pitt? It’s a return to the role that finally earned him an Oscar.

Cliff Booth is back. And his further mis-adventures are coming this November.

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth hits IMAX theaters on November 25, 2026, and streams on Netflix starting December 23, 2026.
