Jennifer’s Body 2 Update: Could Megan Fox’s Cult Horror Character Return in a New Way?

Megan Fox

She was dead. Like, dead-dead. Stabbed in the heart by her best friend.

But in horror, dead never means gone.

17 years after the original flopped and then became a cult bible, Jennifer’s Body 2 is finally moving forward — and Megan Fox is coming back as Jennifer Check.

The Update Everyone’s Freaking Out About

Nearly 17 years after its initial release, a sequel to the cult classic horror-comedy “Jennifer’s Body” is reportedly in the works. Industry insiders suggest that production will kick off in Vancouver by October 2026.

Here’s what we know from industry trades this month:

Production start: October 2026
Filming location: Vancouver, Canada
Returning star: Megan Fox as Jennifer Check

According to a recent listing on industry publication Production Weekly, filming is expected to begin in Vancouver in October 2026.

It’s been 17 years since the release of Jennifer’s Body and now in 2026 it has been reported that a sequel is coming with the original stars reprising their roles. A new listing in film industry publication Production Weekly now has Jennifer’s Body 2 set to start filming in October, as reported by World of Reel, with Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried named on the listing.

Horror outlet Dread Central has also reported that Megan Fox will return for the sequel.

And the big one: Dread Central has exclusively confirmed that Karyn Kusama is returning to direct ‘Jennifer’s Body 2’ from Diablo Cody’s screenplay, with Megan Fox also confirmed to be back, and filming is expected to begin this October in Vancouver. The follow-up is being produced by Disney, which now owns the rights to the original film after its 20th Century Fox distribution.

Diablo Cody is returning to write the screenplay. That’s huge — Cody won an Oscar for Juno right before she wrote Jennifer, and she has been saying for years she wants to revisit it.

How Can Jennifer Return? She Died.

At the end of the 2009 film, Needy (Amanda Seyfried) stabs Jennifer in the heart and kills her. The demon dies with her.

But remember the final scene: Needy is in prison, she levitates, her eyes flash demon. She got some of Jennifer’s power after Jennifer bit her. The transfer already happened.

There are three ways she could return, and the new trailer tease leans hard into one:

1. The Demon Never Died

The trailer for the sequel to the cult horror “JENNIFER’S BODY” presents a new chapter in the story of demonic resurrection. Megan Fox returns in her iconic role as Jennifer Check – now more powerful and invulnerable, since ordinary death holds no power over a demon.

Classic horror logic: you can’t kill a succubus with a kitchen knife. She was just dormant. Now she’s back, older, stronger, and pissed.

2. The Flashback / Prequel Possession

Jennifer Check was possessed in 2009 after a failed satanic ritual by the band Low Shoulder. A sequel could show what the demon did between then and now — did it jump bodies? Did it live in Needy? Megan could play the demon possessing new girls at the same high school.

3. Needy Becomes The New Jennifer

After years of existing as one of Hollywood’s favorite “what ifs”, Jennifer’s Body 2 is finally taking shape. The sequel to the 2009 cult horror hit is officially moving forward with Megan Fox set to return as Jennifer Check, reviving the role that transformed into a pop culture icon long after the film’s original release.

The cult reading for 10 years has been: Jennifer was never the villain. She was a victim of male violence (the band tried to sacrifice a virgin, got the wrong girl). A sequel in 2026 would be perfect to flip it: Jennifer returns not as a man-eater, but as an anti-hero who hunts abusive men. Think M3GAN meets Feminist revenge.

Megan herself has said in interviews she wants Jennifer to be “more powerful” this time. Amanda Seyfried has said she would return — according to horror outlet Dread Central, Megan Fox is set to return as Jennifer Check in Jennifer’s Body two, with Amanda Seyfried also expected to reprise her role as Needy.

Why Now?

In 2009, Fox marketed it as “Megan Fox is hot” for teenage boys. It bombed: $31M worldwide on a $16M budget. Critics called it shallow.

Then Tumblr, TikTok, and Letterboxd found it. Gen Z re-read it as a bisexual, feminist, anti-misogyny horror about female friendship, trauma, and a girl who literally eats boys who hurt her. Now it has a 45% to 87% audience score jump on Rotten Tomatoes and is a Halloween costume staple.

Diablo Cody said it best in 2022: “They marketed it to boys who liked Megan Fox, not to girls who ARE Megan Fox】.”

Disney (who now owns it via 20th Century Studios) knows the audience is there. A low-budget horror sequel with the original stars? That’s Scream 2022 money.

What to Expect

No official release date, but if filming starts October 2026 in Vancouver, expect late 2027 release.

Will it be campy? Yes.
Will Megan Fox still deliver the lines like “I am a god”? She better.
Will Needy and Jennifer finally kiss? The internet has been waiting 17 years.

Released in 2009, Jennifer’s Body starred Megan Fox as Jennifer Check, a popular high school cheerleader who becomes possessed by a demon after a failed satanic ritual.

And in 2026, that demon might finally get her second act.

Do you want Jennifer to return as villain, victim, or full-on vengeance goddess?
