A Vengeful Spirit Packs a Punch

Ghost Killer (2024)

Ghost Killer (2024):

Possession meets precision combat… and revenge never looked this fierce.

From director and stunt maestro Kensuke Sonomura, Ghost Killer crash lands in the action-horror realm with hyper-kinetic energy and a haunted punch.

The Story

College student Fumika Matsuoka accidentally picks up a bullet—one that belonged to notorious hitman Hideo Kudo, now a shade with unfinished business. The result? Kudo’s spirit merges with Fumika’s body, transforming her into his unwitting vessel. Together—or at least involuntarily—they hunt down the people who betrayed his legacy, one brutal, well-choreographed fight at a time.

Why This Film Hits Hard

  • Genre mash-up mastery: It’s part supernatural horror, part revenge thriller, part action comedy—Sonomura and writer Yugo Sakamoto create a bizarrely fun cocktail with a serious emotional undercurrent.

  • Fierce, fluid action: Akari Takaishi (as Fumika/Kudo) delivers jaw-dropping physicality, shifting seamlessly between sweet student and hardened killer. The fight choreography? A standout of the year—from bars to standoff showdowns, it’s relentless.

Ghost Killer (2024)
  • The emotional core: Amid the carnage, a strange bond emerges between Fumika and Kudo—a volatile, layered dynamic that blends dark humor, grief, and unexpected empathy.

  • Tight, stylish execution: Despite a somewhat bumpy pacing and occasional exposition dips, the film’s visual style, editing, and stunt work prove why Sonomura remains one of Japanese action’s most distinctive voices.

  • Critical acclaim and freshness: Critics call it Sonomura’s best in years, praising its balance of humor, heart, and mayhem. With a 100% Tomatometer, it’s a rare martial-arts thriller that earns both smart and savage marks.
