Galaxy S26 FE vs Galaxy S26: Which Samsung Phone Should You Buy?

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 FE has finally arrived, offering a more “affordable” entry point into the company’s flagship S26 lineup. But here’s the twist: the regular Galaxy S26 has been on the market since March, and its price has dropped significantly. In some markets, the “Fan Edition” is now more expensive than the flagship it’s meant to sit beneath.

So which one should you actually buy? Here’s the breakdown.

Price: The Great Flip

On paper, the Galaxy S26 FE is $200 cheaper than the S26’s launch price. But here’s the catch: the regular Galaxy S26 has been on sale since March, and market prices have fallen significantly. In Europe, the 256GB S26 can now be found for around €650, while the S26 FE starts at nearly €800. That means in some regions, the FE is actually more expensive than the better-specced flagship.

The FE starts at $699 for 128GB, rising to $799 for 256GB. The S26 starts at $899—but comes with 256GB as standard. When comparing equivalent storage, the price difference is just £80. For that small premium, you get significantly more phone.

Verdict: Check real-world prices before buying. The S26 may be cheaper than you think.

Performance: A Generational Gap

This is where the difference becomes stark.

The Galaxy S26 FE uses Samsung’s Exynos 2500 chip—the same processor found in last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7. The regular Galaxy S26, by contrast, is powered by the Exynos 2600 (in some markets) or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

The performance gap is measurable. In Geekbench tests, the Galaxy S26 FE scores around 2,426 points in single-core and 8,004 in multi-core. The Galaxy S26 scores 3,070 in single-core and 10,676 in multi-core. That means the S26 is roughly 21% faster in single-core and 25% faster in multi-core performance.

The RAM difference is equally significant. The FE comes with 8GB of RAM across all configurations, while the S26 offers 12GB. That extra memory means better multitasking, smoother performance, and more headroom for future updates.

Verdict: If performance matters to you, the S26 is in a different league.

Display: Big Screen vs Compact

The FE offers a larger 6.7-inch display compared to the S26’s more compact 6.3-inch screen. Both run at 120Hz. But the S26’s display is brighter, reaching 2,600 nits peak brightness versus the FE’s 1,900 nits.

The S26 also features Gorilla Armor 2 glass, while the FE uses Gorilla Glass Victus+. The S26’s display is simply more premium.

Verdict: Choose the FE if you want a bigger screen. Choose the S26 if you want a better one.

Battery: The FE’s One Clear Win

This is the FE’s strongest argument. It packs a 4,900mAh battery with 45W wired charging, compared to the S26’s 4,300mAh battery and sluggish 25W charging.

The S26’s 25W charging has been widely criticised as too slow for a flagship phone. The FE’s 45W charging will get you to 69% in about 30 minutes.

Samsung promises the S26 FE should offer around 29 hours of media playback. The S26’s smaller battery still saw reviewers through a full day with 40% left, but the FE clearly wins on endurance and charging speed.

Verdict: The FE wins hands down on battery and charging.

Cameras: Same Main, Weaker Telephoto

Both phones share the same 50MP main sensor and 12MP ultrawide. The difference is in the telephoto lens: the S26 has a 10MP telephoto, while the FE makes do with a lower-res 8MP.

The S26’s camera system is already considered “somewhat outdated” by reviewers. The FE’s downgraded telephoto won’t improve that impression. That said, Samsung promises the FE offers 3x optical zoom, up to 30x space zoom, and sharper details between 1x and 2x zoom.

Verdict: The S26 has a better telephoto camera, but neither phone is class-leading.

Software: The FE’s Secret Advantage

The Galaxy S26 FE ships with One UI 9 based on Android 17. The regular Galaxy S26 launched with One UI 8.5 based on Android 16.

Both phones receive seven years of OS upgrades. But because the FE starts one version ahead, it will technically receive one extra Android version at the end of its life—through Android 24 instead of Android 23.

Verdict: The FE will outlive the S26 by one Android generation.

Design: A Matter of Taste

The S26 FE adopts the S26 series design language with a new single camera island replacing the three individual rings. It’s available in Blueberry, Graphite, and Pistachio.

The S26 is more compact and lighter, with a more premium feel. It comes in Black, Cobalt Violet, Sky Blue, White, and online-exclusive Silver Shadow and Pink Gold.

Verdict: The S26 feels more premium. The FE offers fresher colours.

Choose the Galaxy S26 FE if:

• You want a larger screen and bigger battery

• You value faster 45W charging

• You want the latest Android version and one extra year of updates

• You’re buying at launch and the $200 saving matters to you

Choose the Galaxy S26 if:

• You want significantly better performance (21-25% faster)

• You need 12GB of RAM for multitasking

• You care about a better telephoto camera and brighter display

• You’re shopping in Europe, where the S26 may actually be cheaper than the FE

The Galaxy S26 FE is a solid phone with real strengths—battery life, charging speed, and software longevity. But the Galaxy S26 offers a more powerful processor, more RAM, a better camera, and a superior display. And in many markets, the price gap has shrunk to the point where the FE’s value proposition is seriously compromised.

As one reviewer put it: the FE “competes in terms of price with devices that offer more RAM, a more powerful processor, and other features”. Unless you specifically want a bigger screen and larger battery, the Galaxy S26 is the better phone.
