The Atlanta Dream star didn’t just break one WNBA record. She shattered two in a single game. And she did it in the most Angel Reese way possible — by outworking everyone on the floor.
A Night for the History Books
Playing against the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto Arena, Reese pulled down a staggering 26 rebounds in a 78-71 victory. That single-game total surpassed the previous WNBA record of 24, set by Chamique Holdsclaw back in 2003. A record that had stood for 23 years — gone in one night of pure dominance.
“Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots. Tonight, I couldn’t hit shit, so I knew I was going be able to get them on the rebounding side.”
She wasn’t wrong. Reese shot just 4-of-14 from the field, but she turned every miss into an opportunity. Of her 26 rebounds, 18 were defensive and eight were offensive.
Two Records, One Night
As if 26 rebounds wasn’t enough, Reese also walked away with the single-season rebounding record. Her 20th rebound of the night gave her 452 for the season, surpassing A’ja Wilson’s mark of 451 set in 2024. By the final buzzer, she had pushed that number to 458 — with six regular-season games still remaining.
She also secured her WNBA-leading 27th double-double of the season on a basket with just 13.9 seconds left.
The “Mebounds” Story
Perhaps the most remarkable part of this story isn’t just the numbers — it’s how Reese got here.
The “Mebounds” nickname started as an online jab from critics who mocked her for collecting rebounds following her own missed shots. Instead of letting it define her negatively, Reese did something extraordinary: she embraced it.
She trademarked the term, launched a merchandise collection in June 2025, and turned it into a six-figure brand. She expanded the branding to her Reebok signature sneaker, releasing an all-pink “Mebounds” colorway.

A New Era in Atlanta
Reese’s journey to this moment hasn’t been straightforward. The Chicago Sky traded her to the Atlanta Dream before the 2026 season. The move raised eyebrows at the time. Now, it looks like one of the most consequential trades in recent WNBA history.
With the Dream, Reese has been nothing short of transformative. She’s averaging 16.1 points and 12.4 rebounds in 37 games. She’s helped Atlanta establish one of the league’s strongest frontcourts and clinched the first playoff berth of her career.
Her impact on the Dream’s recent West Coast road trip was staggering. Over four games, she averaged 20.8 points, 15 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.5 steals on 57.9% shooting. She recorded a perfect 9-of-9 shooting night with 20 points and 10 rebounds against the Sparks earlier in the trip, then dropped a career-high 31 points against the Phoenix Mercury.
“Angel’s been remarkable on this trip. You can see her getting better each month.”
Her teammate Allisha Gray put it even more simply:
“I don’t think in my life I got more than 10 rebounds in my life. That’s just a talent. I’m just in awe watching her rebound.”
