Lupin Season 4 Returns: Can Assane Diop Pull Off His Most Impossible Heist Yet?

Lupin Season 4 Returns

He surrendered. He went to prison. He was done.

For four years.

Omar Sy is back as Assane Diop in Lupin Part 4 — and this time, he has to steal his own name back.

Netflix has officially released the first trailer for ‘Lupin: Part 4’ starring Omar Sy as Assane Diop. And it’s the biggest twist yet: Assane isn’t the thief. He’s the victim.

When Does It Drop?

Mark it:

Lupin Part 4 — October 23, 2026 — Netflix — 8 episodes

Created by George Kay and François Uzan the series will stream globally on October 23 2026.

The series has been renewed for a fourth part, which is scheduled to be released on 23 October 2026. It is one of the month’s clearest picks for viewers who want suspense, disguises, and a returning lead they already know.

Netflix’s current schedule lists eight episodes for the new season. Omar Sy returns as Assane Diop in all eight episodes of Lupin Part 4 on October 23, joined by Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, Shirine Boutella, Théo Christine, and Laïka Blanc-Francard.

This is coming 3 years after Part 3 ended with Assane turning himself in to protect his family.

The Plot: Four Years Later, A Copycat Steals Lupin

Lupin Part 4 begins four years after Assane Diop surrenders, with Assane still in prison and wanting to leave his life as a gentleman thief behind to reunite with his family in Senegal. However, things take a turn when multiple museums are hit in simultaneous, high-security heists by a mysterious figure signing off as Lupin.

The trailer makes it clear:

Assane is sitting in a prison cell in Paris, growing a beard, reading Arsène Lupin, actually trying to be clean. He wants to serve his time, get out, and finally live quietly with Claire and Raoul in Senegal.

Then — BOOM.

A masked thief pulls off simultaneous museum heists across France — the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Petit Palais — all in one night, all high-security, all impossible… and signs every crime scene: LUPIN.

The police think it’s Assane ordering it from inside. The press calls him a liar. His family is dragged back into danger.

The eight-episode season follows Diop four years into a prison sentence as a copycat thief carries out museum heists in his name.

So what does Assane do? Exactly what you think. He breaks out to clear his name.

Omar Sy himself says this season is Bigger and Bolder — he is now also serving as both actor and showrunner alongside Louis Leterrier.

Why This Season Is Different

Parts 1-3 were about revenge against Hubert Pellegrini. Assane was hunting someone.

Part 4 flips it: Someone is hunting him, using his own legend.

Assane’s ability to anticipate other people’s moves gives the story its distinctive appeal, while the consequences of his actions keep the stakes high.

This isn’t about stealing a necklace. It’s about:

  1. Identity theft — literally. Someone stole the Lupin brand.
  2. Prison break — Can Assane pull off an Arsène Lupin escape from a modern high-security French prison?
  3. Trust — Years after Assane surrendered, a copycat appears to be pulling off museum thefts in his name, dragging him toward another impossible escape and another question about whom he can trust

Keeping Assane Diop in prison might be harder than catching him.

Is the copycat a fan? A student? A child of someone Assane hurt? The trailer shows a younger figure, fast, smart, wearing Assane’s old cap.

The Impossible Heist

How do you rob three national museums at the same time when you’re locked up?

That’s the genius of this season. Assane has to prove he didn’t do it by doing something even more impossible — breaking out, finding the copycat, and stealing back the stolen art before the police catch either of them.

Think Prison Break meets Ocean’s Eleven meets French literature.

And the show knows its roots: The French hit remains inspired by Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin stories, with Assane transforming literary tricks into elaborate modern cons.

The series was watched by 76 million households during its first month, becoming the most-watched non-English series on Netflix at the time. Three years later, people are still wearing that cap.

Can He Pull It Off?

Assane has always had one rule: No violence. Just brains, disguise, and books.

But now he’s older. He’s tired. He wanted to stop.

The trailer ends with Assane in a museum after hours, surrounded by lasers, looking at a painting that says “You taught me.”

He smiles. That Omar Sy smile.

The gentleman thief is back — not because he wants to steal, but because he has to steal back his own name.

Lupin Part 4 hits Netflix October 23. Are you ready to put the cap back on?
