Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S26 FE, the newest member of its flagship S26 family. Arriving as the “affordable” entry point into Samsung’s premium lineup, the Fan Edition phone brings the company’s latest AI services and camera capabilities at a lower price point. But with a price hike and mostly familiar hardware, is this year’s FE worth your attention? Here’s everything you need to know.
Price and Availability: The FE Gets More Expensive
For the first time since 2024, the Fan Edition’s starting price has gone up. The Galaxy S26 FE starts at $699.99** for the 128GB model—a **$50 increase over its predecessor. The 256GB version costs $799.99.
| Storage | Price (US) |
|---|---|
| 128GB | $699.99 |
| 256GB | $799.99 |
The price hike is attributed to an industry-wide memory chip shortage and rising component costs. Samsung has also kept the base storage at 128GB while competitors like Google have moved to 256GB as their entry tier.
The Galaxy S26 FE will be available from select carrier partners on September 3, with direct sales from Samsung.com and other retailers beginning September 4. It comes in three finishes: Blueberry, Graphite, and Pistachio.
Design: Glossy New Look, Familiar Feel
The S26 FE measures 161.6 x 76.9 x 7.4mm and weighs 193g—practically identical to its predecessor. The aluminum frame and glass back give it a premium, solid feel in hand.
The biggest visual change is on the rear. Samsung has ditched the three individually protruding camera rings in favor of a single camera island that makes the FE look much more like the regular Galaxy S26 series. The camera lenses sit almost flush with the island, a small detail that looks cleaner in person.
However, there’s a trade-off: the glossy finishes are a fingerprint nightmare. The darker Blueberry and Graphite models show smudges more visibly than Pistachio. If you plan to use a case, this won’t matter much.
Display and Battery: Unchanged but Solid
The display carries over from last year:
6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display
FHD+ resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels)
120Hz adaptive refresh rate (1Hz–120Hz)
Peak brightness of 1,900 nits
The battery is also unchanged:
4,900mAh capacity
45W wired charging (69% charge in ~30 minutes)
15W wireless charging
Wireless PowerShare for charging other devices
Performance: Exynos 2500 Under the Hood
The most meaningful upgrade is internal. The Galaxy S26 FE is powered by Samsung’s 3-nanometer Exynos 2500 chipset—the same processor used in last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7.
It comes with 8GB of RAM across all configurations—unfortunately, RAM upgrades are not an option. Storage choices include 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB (though the 512GB model may not be available in all markets).
The Exynos 2500 should deliver improved performance and efficiency over the previous generation’s Exynos 2400. However, benchmark leaks suggest the FE could be up to 33% slower than the Exynos 2600-powered Galaxy S26. Everyday performance should be fine, but don’t expect flagship-level power.
Cameras: Same Hardware, Smarter Software
The rear camera array remains identical to last year’s:
| Camera | Specs |
|---|---|
| Main | 50MP, f/1.8, OIS |
| Ultrawide | 12MP, f/2.2 |
| Telephoto | 8MP, f/2.4, 3x optical zoom, 30x Super Zoom |
| Front (Selfie) | 12MP, f/2.2, 85° field of view |
The selfie camera now has a wider 85-degree field of view (up from 80 degrees) to fit more people into group shots.
The real upgrades come through software:
My FanCam: Automatically tracks and centers a selected subject in video, intelligently reframing as the scene moves
Super Steady with Horizontal Lock: Keeps footage level even when rotating the phone up to 360 degrees
Nightography: Brighter, clearer low-light video with less noise
Photo Assist: Edit images using natural language prompts—turn day into night, add elements, or restore missing parts
Gemini Omni: Create and edit video clips from Gallery photos and videos
Audio Eraser: Isolate background noise in third-party apps
Software: One UI 9 and Seven Years of Updates
The Galaxy S26 FE is the first phone in the Galaxy S26 lineup to launch with One UI 9 out of the box. One UI 9 brings:
Context-aware AI routines
Now Brief: Create custom card widgets
Now Nudge: AI-powered proactive suggestions
Enhanced Circle to Search: Recognize multiple items in one view
Improved Document Scanner: Tidying up photographed documents
Samsung is also committing to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates—matching the support offered on its flagship devices.
Galaxy AI: The Real Selling Point
Samsung is positioning the S26 FE as an AI-first device. It brings onboard all the same Galaxy AI features found on the flagship S26 series and Z Fold 8. These include:
Document Scanner for cleaning up photographed documents
Photo Assist for AI-powered image editing
Audio Eraser for removing unwanted background noise
Circle to Search for multi-item image searching
Gemini Omni for video creation
Samsung is also bundling a six-month Google AI Pro trial with 5TB of cloud storage and enhanced access to advanced Google AI models.
Other Specifications
Connectivity: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, 5G, LTE
Durability: IP68 water and dust resistance
Build: Aluminum frame, glass back
Should You Buy It?
Buy it if:
You want Galaxy AI features without paying flagship prices
You value seven years of software updates
You like the new glossy design and color options
Skip it if:
You already own a Galaxy S25 FE (the upgrades are minimal)
You’re looking for significant hardware improvements
You can stretch your budget to the Galaxy S26 (which offers better performance for not much more)
You’re price-sensitive—the $50 hike and 128GB base storage feel like poor value
As one reviewer put it: “The Galaxy S26 FE is costlier than ever for a midrange phone, but Samsung is making up for it by packing it with top-tier AI features”. Whether that’s enough to justify the price hike is a decision only you can make.
