She survived Billy and Stu. She survived her own mother. She survived college, Hollywood, and Woodsboro twice.
She did not survive pay dispute for Scream 6. But she did survive Scream 7.
And now, she has to survive again.
Neve Campbell confirmed she will return as Sidney Prescott (now Evans) in Scream 8.

In an interview with the Associated Press on Monday while promoting her role in Netflix‘s Black Doves, Campbell revealed the news.
“Scream 8, you know, that’s in the pipeline,” Campbell said while politely declining to say any more. “I’ll be in it.”
On the plan for the new film, or a potential release date, Campbell said, “I can’t tell you anything about Scream 8.”
But we know it’s real. And we know Sidney is back. Again.
What We Know So Far
Paramount and Spyglass announced that they would begin developing an eighth movie on March 31, 2026, with sisters Lilla and Nora Zuckerman handling the script.
That’s important:
Scream 7 came out February 28, 2026 — directed by Kevin Williamson (creator of original Scream), written by Williamson & Guy Busick. It brought Neve Campbell back as lead after she skipped Scream 6, brought back Courteney Cox, brought back original vibe. It made record-breaking $214M — Scream 8 Confirms Major Character Return After Record-Breaking $214M Sequel.
Scream 7 was supposed to be final. Williamson said Sidney’s story would end there, safe with husband Mark Evans and kids in their secluded house.
Then Scream 7 outgrossed every Scream since Scream 2. Paramount said: “Pipeline.”
Now:
- Scream 8 is officially in development at Spyglass Media.
- Neve Campbell confirmed to AP on Nov 2, 2026 — Neve Campbell has officially confirmed her return to the Scream franchise, announcing that she will reprise her role as the iconic Sidney Prescott in the upcoming eighth installment.
- Writer: Sisters Lilla and Nora Zuckerman (Poker Face, Suits) — not Williamson this time, but Williamson as EP
- Release: No date, but likely Feb 2028 (Scream now loves February)
- Title: Just “Scream 8” for now — but after Scream (2022) was Scream, they might call it Scream 8, or finally Scream VIII?
Further details about the storyline, supporting cast and production schedule have yet to be announced.
Why Sidney Prescott Returning Is a Big Deal (Again)
Sidney Prescott is set to return once again in Scream 8, although details about the film’s storyline and her character’s next encounter with Ghostface remain under wraps.
Sidney Prescott will return for another Scream film. Neve Campbell has confirmed that she will reprise her role in Scream 8, marking her return to the franchise after appearing in its latest instalment.
Let’s count:
- Scream (1996) — survived Billy Loomis & Stu
- Scream 2 (1998) — survived Mrs. Loomis & Mickey
- Scream 3 (2000) — survived Roman, her half-brother
- Scream 4 (2011) — survived Jill, her cousin
- Scream 5 (2022) — cameo, survived Amber & Richie to save Sam & Tara
- Scream 6 skipped — she was supposed to be in New York but pay dispute
- Scream 7 (2026) — returned as Sidney Evans, mother now, survived another encounter with Ghostface killers in Scream 7
That’s 6 times Ghostface tried. 6 times Sidney won.
No other final girl has that record. Laurie Strode died. Nancy Thompson died. Ellen Ripley died.
Sidney Prescott is still alive at 53, married, with kids, living off-grid — and Ghostface still finds her.
That’s the question of Scream 8: Can she survive another nightmare, or is this the one where final girl finally doesn’t?
What Could Scream 8 Be About? Theories
Scream 8 script by Zuckerman sisters — who wrote Poker Face — suggests mystery structure. What we know from Scream 7 ending (spoilers):
Scream 7 ended with Sidney’s daughter (rumored: 16-year-old Tatum Evans, named after best friend Tatum Riley) finding a Ghostface mask in her closet. Not Sidney’s husband. Daughter.
So Scream 8 theories:
1. The Next Generation Ghostface
Sidney’s kid becomes target — or becomes Ghostface. The cruelest twist: Sidney has to stop her own child from becoming what tried to kill her. That would be “can Sidney survive another nightmare” literally — nightmare as mother.
2. The Stu Theory Finally Pays Off
For 30 years, fans think Stu Macher survived Scream 1 (we never saw body). Scream 6 teased it. Scream 7 writers said no. Zuckerman sisters love legacy — what if Stu is back at 50, having watched from prison, and wants Sidney?
3. Sidney as Suspect
Most radical: Scream 8 makes Sidney Ghostface. After 30 years of trauma, she snaps. Neve Campbell said in AP interview she would only return if story honored Sidney. Would she honor by letting Sidney become villain? Williamson said never. But new writers might.
4. The Final Final
Campbell told AP: “I’ll be in it” — not “I lead it.” Could be smaller role, passing torch to new cast from Scream 5/6/7 — Sam, Tara, Chad, Mindy — plus her daughter. Sidney as mentor, not victim. But we know Scream never lets Sidney just be mentor. She bleeds.
Can Sidney Prescott Survive Another Nightmare?
Let’s do math of horror:
- In Scream (1996), Sidney was 17
- In Scream 8 (2028), Sidney will be 55
- She has survived 6 Ghostfaces, 2 documentaries about her, 1 stab movie franchise within movie, and Hollywood trying to kill her career twice
Meta rule of Scream: Every new Scream is about how sequels and legacy work. Scream 7 was about legacy sequels bringing back old hero. Scream 8 will be about what happens when old hero can’t stop coming back.
Neve Campbell confirmed her return to Scream franchise during interview with AP on Monday while promoting Black Doves — she looked tired but happy. She knows what this means — another 4 months night shoot, another Ghostface voice on phone: “What’s your favorite scary movie, Sidney?”
And we will watch, because Sidney Prescott is the only final girl who never asked to be final girl. She just wanted to go to college.
She survived Woodsboro. Can she survive her own franchise?
Paramount hopes yes — for Scream 9.
Fans hope yes — but also, maybe it’s okay if she doesn’t. Maybe the bravest ending is letting Sidney finally rest, and letting her daughter take the call.
But until Feb 2028, we have one guarantee:
Do you like scary movies, Sidney? The call is coming again.
Are you happy Sidney is back for 8, or do you think Scream 7 should have been her last? And who do you think Ghostface is this time?
